Maybe you want to reach your healthy weight; maybe you're recuperating from surgery or a frightening diagnosis. Most of us know what we need to do to get healthy, but staying motivated to do so can be elusive. That's why, according to mental training expert James E. Loehr, Ed.D., CEO and president of LGE Performance Systems in Orlando, Fla., finding a profound reason for your fitness is key. "Anchor getting healthy to a deeper reason than buffing up or fitting into a bikini," Loehr says. "Find a source of passion, and maintaining your motivation will be easier."

To access that passion, Loehr suggests doing some serious soul-searching, deciding what matters to you most, then crafting a mission statement. Maybe you want to run a marathon for charity, be around for your children or achieve anything that requires optimum health.
